On your bill, look for the unit rate (pence per kWh) and the standing charge (pence per day). On keypad or pay as you go? Your supplier's website or app shows them.

This is an estimate. Top-ups can include debt repayments or emergency credit, and Direct Debits are often averaged, so your real usage may be different.

How we find the cheapest electricity for you

We work out a yearly cost for every tariff using your own usage: the unit rate for each kWh, plus the standing charge, minus any discount or sign-up credit, plus any joining fee. The cheapest overall comes first, not just the lowest unit rate.

Every price shows the date our team checked it, and older prices are moved to the bottom. The supplier always confirms your final price.

Questions, answered

Who supplies electricity to homes in Northern Ireland?

There are five electricity suppliers for NI homes: Budget Energy, Click Energy, Power NI, Share Energy and SSE Airtricity. Electric Ireland left the NI home market in September 2025. We compare every tariff we've checked.

How do I switch electricity supplier in Northern Ireland?

Compare tariffs here, choose the one you want and sign up with that supplier. The new supplier arranges the switch with your current one. If you're on a fixed contract, check for an exit fee first, and have a recent meter reading ready.

Can I switch if I have a keypad meter?

Yes, several NI suppliers have keypad tariffs. Choose "Keypad" as your payment method to compare them. If you top up a set amount each week, choose "I know what I spend" and we'll estimate your usage. If you owe money on your meter, check with your supplier first.

What is Economy 7 (night rate electricity)?

Economy 7, often called night rate electricity, charges a cheaper rate per unit for electricity used at night. Choose Economy 7, tell us roughly how much you use at night, and we'll work out your cost with the day and night rates.

Does the GB energy price cap apply in Northern Ireland?

No. Northern Ireland has its own energy market, regulated by the Utility Regulator, so the Ofgem price cap used in England, Scotland and Wales doesn't apply here. That's why NI prices need an NI comparison.

Estimates are a guide, worked out from the prices we've checked and the details you entered. The supplier confirms your final price and whether you're eligible.
